Shortly after Sheila Waters began teaching excited letter lovers in the DC area in 1976, they discussed creating a Guild. Sheila hand lettered the invitation. WCG members attend for free. Nonmembers $10.

Sammy Little was one of many students who studied with Sheila Waters for years before launching a successful freelance career.
Sammy Little was one of many students who studied with Sheila Waters for years before launching a successful freelance career.

Even if you weren't alive in the 1970s, Sammy Little will help us experience how interest in calligraphy exploded in Washington and around the country, thanks in large part to Sheila Waters.


In addition to her classes, workshops and weeklong masterclasses, Sheila brought in teachers from the US and abroad to expand our knowledge.

Exhibitions motivated us to experiment with layout, design and new techniques.


Sammy Little will cap her presentation with a discussion of tools, and will happily welcome comments and questions.
