About the event

Join us as Julian discusses the life of WCG's Founding President Sheila Waters and her calligraphic lineage directly back to Edward Johnston and the Arts & Crafts Movement; her fascinating UK career from the late 1940s, including calligraphy commissions for royalty, maps for publishers, bookbinding designs and illustrations; how the 1966 Florence flood changed everything; and the deep knowledge and wide skill set Sheila brought when the family moved to the United States in 1971. Julian will give a second presentation on April 16, 2026 on Sheila and Calligraphy’s Renaissance in the USA.
