About the event

Join us as Julian presents a fascinating overview of Sheila Waters’ career in the USA, the rise of Washington Calligraphers Guild and other calligraphy societies, and how some other international calligraphers made a difference, as well as Sheila’s influential teaching and writing and how her work became freer. Julian also will be talking about design and how complicated and challenging calligraphy projects can be methodically planned, designed and executed, from rough designs to final art.

ABOUT JULIAN WATERS

Julian Waters is the eldest son of Sheila Waters, protégé of Hermann Zapf, and an award-winning lettering designer whose clients have included National Geographic and the US Postal Service. Fifty years ago, as a college student and just starting in calligraphy, Julian was one of the original 12 who met to form the Washington Calligraphers Guild.
