About the event

Think Good Thoughts, Write Good Words ...

especially in Gothicized Italic

... a line from Shakespeare’s Sonnet 85. Barry will share many pieces whose texts are straight out of the Bard, but all with different treatments and style variations to reflect the essence of the text. Most of his artwork will be in Gothicized Italic, which he learned from Sheila Waters.

Barry Morentz titled his website The Blazoning Pen, a line from Shakespeare's Othello, to reflect his lifelong passion for the Bard. As Barry shares with us the many passages he has lettered, he'll explain how he selects the right letterforms to visually convey the essence of the words and enhance their meaning. His list of reference books is attached. Also attached is a guide to how to read a sonnet to guide anyone planning to letter a sonnet how to interpret it for improved design.
