Fountain Pen Essentials for Calligraphers with Caiti Anderson
Sun, Oct 27
|Penny Post
Scheduled just before Fountain Pen Day is a hands-on opportunity to learn about fountain pens! We calligraphers love our dip pens, nibs and inks, slantboards and other tools of the trade, but fountain pens make the pleasure of writing more portable.

About the event
If you have always wanted to try a fountain pen but have felt intimidated by how to get started, we have you covered! Penny Post’s resident fountain pen expert, Caiti, will walk you through all of the ins and outs of these incredible writing instruments in a totally relaxed, wonderfully hands-on way during a workshop specially created for the Washington Calligraphers Guild.
*Tickets are $20, limited to Guild members with active memberships. Participants will receive $10 in store credit to use the day of the event.
- How does a fountain pen differ from my dip pens?
- Why would I choose to use a fountain pen over a dip pen?
- I’m looking to bring the pleasure of writing beyond my calligraphy desk.
- I don't know what a fountain pen is and want to know but don't want to ask.
- I'm interested in fountain pens but I think they'll be so expensive.
- Fountain pens seem fun and different, but aren't they so messy?
- How does fountain pen ink differ from various inks I use with my dip pens? Can I use fountain pen ink with my dip pens?
- I'm fountain pen curious, but don't know where to start!
- I just bought my first fountain pen and can't decide whether I like it or LOVE it.
If any of these thoughts have popped into your head, this meet-up is for you!
Join fellow Guild members on Sunday, October 27 at 10 am for a chat and demo with Caiti. We'll cover fountain pen basics, demystify the craft, try out different pens and paper, and help ease you into the fountain pen world. If you've recently gotten a fountain pen(s), bring them! We'll scribble together. We’ll explore how fountain pens and inks differ from other calligraphy tools.
Our workshop is timed just before Fountain Pen Day. Following the workshop, participants will be able to join Guild President Elissa Krieg and other Guild members for coffee, tea, and/or brunch at The Turkish Coffee Lady just a few blocks from the workshop.
The group will be limited to 10 so that we can interact and explore together, and to enable all participants to get all of their questions answered. This workshop is limited to WCG members only. If interest exceeds available spaces, we may hold a second workshop in spring 2025.
