Calligraphy Therapy with Martha Laurens
Have pen or pencil on hand as Martha helps us learn to understand our body and hand movement when we are writing or creating artwork.
Time & Location
Jan 10, 2024, 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
About the event
We will start with doing some mindful practice in warm up exercise with pencil, and then continue to learn to feel the motion in our hand while holding the pencil / pointed pen, from whole arm, finger to combination movement using couple of techniques of practices. The purpose is to understand our body and hand movement when we are writing or creating an artwork. Movement is not just about fast or slow speed, but it is how we feel, how we think, how we act, how we sense all the things around us and project it into our work. The idea is to enjoy what we are practicing rather than do what we think is right. We are learning to develop muscle memory through seeing how nature moves, and through an enjoyable practice and exercises. After that we will continue to see some basic strokes from some scripts, Roman Caps / Uncial / Gothic / Roundhand / Spencerian and then try to create some lettering styles by combining the motion that we feel and the script that we choose.
There will be only one or two pages of handout.
