The seasons are transitioning, and so are we in preparing to come out of our summer hiatus… though it really hasn’t been one. Most of the summer has been dedicated to gradually updating the website (recategorizing topics, integrating PayPal more seamlessly for our Membership and Workshop payments, and scanning in historical documents for our digital archives). Our TinyLetter email communication with our members has been amped up with the goal of keeping you connected and updated.
Kacie-Linn Engle, our Workshops Chair, and her committee have been hard at work to bring you top-notch virtual workshops via Zoom for an extended season that started earlier than usual in August and will continue well through November.
Our workshops and our programs will remain virtual during the Fall/Winter 2020 season as we navigate and assess the pandemic’s direction.
The safety of our members and our instructors is foremost. Yet we as a guild endeavor to strive always in bringing you information and inspiration during this time.
And I, myself, am looking ahead to next year, when WCG will be celebrating its 45th anniversary. We are considering a virtual juried exhibit to be featured on our website. Please look forward to details concerning this in the coming months as to how you can participate in this ongoing and evolving history, no matter what level you feel you are. This would be a stellar opportunity to show us what you have been working on.
This can be a time for calligraphic and artistic experimentation and expression. I’ve witnessed a majority of us participating during the summer in a welcome explosion of creativity through a huge variety and selection of online courses held by the likes of Yves Leterme, Gemma Black, John Stevens, Loredana Zega, Elmo van Slingerland, Yukimi Annand, Claudio Gil, and many other outstanding instructors in the field. John Neal, Bookseller, is doing a fantastic job of keeping this list of courses updated and well-announced at: https://www.johnnealbooks.com/prod_detail_list/instructor-book-supply-lists/
Thank you for being supportive and engaged members of this Guild. Your feedback and your artistry keep this Board active and willing to continue in our roles in bringing you beauty along with the initiative and passion to want to create it.
